[ Maybe this will prompt some kind of explanation.... because hello, a guy is kinda lost here. ]

[ A shrug before he just gestures with a hand. ]

Put simply, I can do more damage with my own two hands, than with those things.

[ That still explains mostly nothing but it's a workable nothing, so whatever. ]

They really did a number on those of you with special powers when they brought us.

[ He shrugs. ]

They didn't leave me helpless. Plus, I don't need powers to find some way to get back at them. And, when I finally get my revenge on them, I'll leave them wishing they'd left me with powers.

[ Whoops, his grin is kind of... well. Not entirely stable????? ]

Because there would have been more room for an accidental quick kill, that way.

[ Kohaku doesn't mind that kind of grin. As far as staff is concerned, this level of sadism is, more than anything, a little relatable. ]

Hah. 'Helpless' is certainly not how I'd describe you, no.

[ The run-in on day one certainly proved it. ]

And anyway, the cruelty of monsters is mechanical and boring. Us people are so much more creative.

[ He gives a small smirk, though there's something wry to it. ]

[ There's a nonchalant - most definitely forced - tilt of his head. ]

[ Huh? Well, then again, the pink doctor was some kind of dead spirit thing, so that's all not surprising. ]

[ There's a distant kind of smirk. ]

A part of someone that couldn't be accepted.

[ His smirk widens, growing a little more bitter as it does. But he quickly works it into something that reveals less bitterness, only giving something that possibly makes it seem like nothing he is saying matters. ]

Put simply, I'm their extracted darkness.

First time I heard of anything like that.

[ There's another notable pause here. Kohaku needs a second to really visualize what on earth might be going on with Vanitas - another day, he might have questioned the validity of the statement, but with all that's happening here it's hard to cast doubt onto anybody's claims.

Extracting someone's darkness... That seems like an easy way out. An escape and excuse. Turning yourself artificial because you can't handle the weight of your own personality. Maybe it's exactly because Kohaku understands the feeling of being crushed by yourself that he holds such contempt for those who run away - those who have the means to run away. ]

Sounds like they're less inhuman now than you are.

[ His gaze quietly rests on Kohaku after he asks that. ]

The person you were split off from.

[ Not assuming that they're a boy just because Vanitas is - Kohaku's world has too much gender weirdness for him to see this as obvious. ]

[ He shakes his head. ]

They were too soft. Too weak. Master Xehanort split up apart because Ventus was... pretty pathetic.

[ But there's something odd to his voice - a shift, as though he's just repeating something he's said countless times. ]

And that's supposed to have made them less pathetic?

[ That sounds incredibly unlikely, since Vanitas is pretty clearly the badass part here? ]

[ He nods, his expression a bit. Empty? As he says the next part. ]

Afterward, he sent him away to train under someone else.
